AdBlue Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) available at selected NPD sites.
A new product that consumers will see more of on NZ forecourts is Diesel Exhaust Fluid or DEF. Two common brand names within the market for this product are AdBlue and GoClear.
Vehicles requiring this product are manufactured with a second tank specifically for this product only. It can have serious consequences for a vehicle if it is incorrectly dispensed into a petrol or diesel tank. Customers need to be aware of these options and be very careful in their selection.
Some NPD sites provide an AdBlue dispenser. AdBlue is only for use with diesel vehicles using SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology. It is a 100 per cent New Zealand made exhaust system additive that reduces Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines. AdBlue is created by mixing a urea solution with demineralised water. When it’s injected into the hot exhaust gas the harmful NOx gas in the exhaust is converted to harmless nitrogen gas and water vapour.
NPD ‘Self Serve’ forecourts allow customers to fill their vehicles themselves, which offers a speedy and cost-effective refuelling process. This also means that customers need to be very aware of what they are putting in their vehicle and making sure that they are filling their vehicle with the correct fuel.
AdBlue is ISO 22241 certified.
